Multifractal approach to fully developed turbulence

چکیده
Abstract The multifractal description of complex phenomena has been introduced in the first half 1980s for characterization anomalous scaling fully developed turbulence and structure chaotic attractors. From a technical point view, idea is basically contained large deviations theory; however, introduction had an important role statistical physics, chaos, disordered systems. In particular, to clarify neat way that usual idea, coming from critical phenomena, just few exponents are relevant, cannot be completely accurate, infinite set necessary complete features. We briefly review here basic aspects some applications model turbulence.

Fully Developed Turbulence and the Multifractal Conjecture
We review the Parisi-Frisch [1] MultiFractal formalism for Navier– Stokes turbulence with particular emphasis on the issue of statistical fluctuations of the dissipative scale. We do it for both Eulerian and Lagrangian Turbulence. We also show new results concerning the application of the formalism to the case of Shell Models for turbulence. The latter case will allow us to discuss the issue of...
متن کاملNon-extensive statistical mechanics approach to fully developed hydrodynamic turbulence
We apply non-extensive methods to the statistical analysis of fully developed turbulent flows. Probability density functions of velocity differences at distance r obtained by extremizing the Tsallis entropies coincide well with what is measured in turbulence experiments. We derive a set of relations between the hyperflatness factors Fm and the non-extensitivity parameter q, which can be used to...
متن کاملUniversality in fully developed turbulence.
We extend the numerical simulations of She et al. (1993)] of highly turbulent ow with 15 Taylor-Reynolds number Re 200 up to Re 45 000, employing a reduced wave vector set method (introduced earlier) to approximately solve the Navier-Stokes equation. First, also for these extremely high Reynolds numbers Re , the energy spectra as well as the higher moments { when scaled by the spectral intensit...
متن کاملGeneralized Additive Entropies in Fully Developed Turbulence
We explore a possible application of the additive generalization of the BoltzmannGibbs-Shannon entropy proposed in [A. N. Gorban, I. V. Karlin, Phys. Rev. E, 67:016104 (2003)] to fully developed turbulence. The predicted probability distribution functions are compared with those obtained from Tsallis’ entropy and with experimental data. Consequences of the existence of hidden subsystems are ill...
متن کاملFully developed turbulence and statistical mechanics
2014 This paper gives a self contained review of some recent progress of the statistical theory of fully developed turbulence. The emphasis is on both analogies and differences with Hamiltonian statistical mechanics, in particular critical phenomena. The method of spectral equations, which plays to a certain extent the role of a mean field theory, is discussed in detail. It is here viewed as a ...
